What is Hormone Therapy?

Hormones are produced by various glands in the body, and together they compose what is called the endocrine system. As hormones are produced from the glands, they move throughout the body to perform specific functions.

Many of these functions are obvious to us, such as the following:

  • Hair growth
  • Libido
  • Sex characteristics
  • Mood
  • Energy

And some of the functions are more subtle, yet very important. These might include conditions as:

  • Wound, ligament, and tendon healing
  • Stress response
  • Headaches
  • Anxiety

Historically, the medical community has addressed each gland as a separate entity.  More recent research involving the endocrine system reveals that hormones often work together to regulate a complex balance of hormones in the body. Yet, many doctors continue to prescribe hormone replacement therapy based on the results of limited testing.
